Bedbugs (Cimex Lectularius) are small wingless insects that feed solely upon the blood of warm-blooded animals. Bedbugs and their relatives have evolved as nest parasites. This tiny six-legged insect hides throughout your home during the day and then feast on your blood at night whilst you’re sleeping.

The common bedbug is a reddish-brown insect that doesn’t grow much more than half a centimetre in length. Bedbugs inject an anticoagulant to keep your blood flowing as they suck, along with an anaesthetic agent to keep you from your feeling them when they’re at work.

Bedbugs infest residences and they readily hide in small crevices. Used furniture, particularly bed frames and mattresses are of greatest risk of harbouring bed-bugs and their eggs. Other objects such as luggage, furniture, clothing, pillows and boxes are also at risk if moved between the home and other premises.

The use of spray treatments is deemed to be the most effective pest control method of eradication of the bedbug. This will be used in all the infested areas and then the room will need to be vacated for at least 4 hours to ensure that the insecticide can work into the required areas. All infested items such as bedding and clothing will then be required to be washed at 60 degrees or dry cleaned before being put away.

In addition to the above method of pest control Albany now carry out heat treatments whereby infested items are placed in a large plastic bubble and heated to a level which destroys all stages of the pest’s life cycle. The primary benefit of this extermination procedure is that it is pesticide free.
